Department Divisions

The LSU Police Department provides numerous resources for crime deterrence and response. LSU Police Officers collaborate closely with local law enforcement agencies, the Baton Rouge Fire Department and East Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services (EMS), which provide fire and emergency medical services to the LSU community.

Uniform Patrol and Mountain Bike Patrol

The Uniform Patrol division is the largest within the department. These Officers are responsible for proactively patrolling LSU properties and responding to service calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round. They deliver superb police services to LSU's faculty, staff, students, and visitors, maintaining a highly visible and proactive presence on campus. The division's primary goals are to provide police services and conduct anti-crime patrols within the community.

Similarly, the Mountain Bike Patrol Division performs proactive patrols and can access areas on campus that regular patrol units cannot reach. These Officers also promote bicycle safety awareness and provide resources regarding bicycle laws and bicycle safety.

Community Outreach Officers

The Community Outreach Division offers educational services focused on safety and security within the community. They achieve this through safety awareness presentations, social media posts, and maintaining a visible presence on campus. These Officers collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and safety partners to participate in events both on and off campus that promote safety. They also work closely with student organizations to help close the gap between law enforcement and the community.

Additionally, these Officers schedule and host two women's self-defense classes each semester.

Community Outreach Officers are present at all orientation sessions, providing valuable information to students and parents to help keep our community safe. They engage with the LSU community daily through community check-ins, answering questions, and addressing concerns. All of these efforts are aimed at proactive engagement with community members, rather than reactive responses. These Officers continually develop new ways to provide positive safety education.

Tiger Patrol Security Unarmed Division

Established in October 2022, this division serves the LSU community by providing motorist assistance and courtesy escorts to students, faculty, and staff. Tiger Patrol Security Officers patrol on foot for the residential halls and the 250+ buildings on LSU’s campus.

They also assist our Equalizer Self-Defense Instructors by providing support during these valuable classes.

Tiger Patrol Security Officers diligently observe and report any suspicious activity to LSU Police Officers, who respond promptly. By serving as a visible deterrent, they enhance security and offer valuable support during special events, such as football games, concerts, and Move-In day. Additionally, they play a key role in enforcing campus parking regulations and conducting building checks to ensure safety.

Motor Officers

Also known as the Traffic Unit, these Officers respond, assist, and provide services for all traffic crashes, hit-and-runs, and traffic law enforcement needs of the LSU community. They also provide escorts for events, if requested.

K-9 Officers

These Officers provide the University and campus community with safe, timely resolutions of bomb threats, suspicious package concerns, threats from actual hazardous devices, and the detection and mitigation of body worn or carried explosives. To respond to bomb threat locations, preventative patrol, assist other law enforcement agencies, or sweep venues hosting special events/sporting events.
