University Networking & Infrastructure
University Networking and Infrastructure (UNI) manages wired networking, wireless networking, network security, telephony, network applications, virtual servers and storage, and cloud services.
Network Engineering and Architecture (NEA) is responsible for the architecture, design, installation, and maintenance of the data network infrastructure of the LSU A&M campus. The group also manages network authentication services and security policy implementation as they apply to network devices.
Network Engineering and Architecture – Wireless (NEA Wireless) is responsible for the architecture, design, installation, and maintenance of wireless network infrastructure of the LSU A&M campus.
Telecommunications Architecture and Network Construction (TANC) is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all inside plant (ISP) structured horizontal communications cabling on the LSU A&M campus. The team also handles configuration and installation of all access layer switches deployed in all telecommunications rooms (TRs).
Network Facilities (NINF) is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all outside plant (OSP) communications cabling and all inside plant (ISP) structured backbone communications OSP assets for the University.
TANC and NINF ensure any architectural plans for new construction or renovations produced by Facility Services and Planning Development include provisions for telephony, wired, and wireless networking and that they meet the UNI Construction Requirements.
Network Applications and Systems Architecture (NASA) is responsible for the design, installation, and daily operation services associated with systems architecture and network applications. The group also manages enterprise licensing for some institutional platforms, such as Microsoft. Network Applications is responsible for systems and applications that are directly supportive of network services, including DNS, DHCP, and BlueCat IP address management. Systems Architecture manages LSU’s Infrastructure as a Services (IaaS) offering, including compute, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity services.
Scheduled Maintenance
The University Networking and Infrastructure Team reserves the hours between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Wednesdays to perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to any services provided. The team will notify departments of any emergency maintenance that must be performed outside this window through communication with departmental Technical Service Professionals (TSPs). Departments which have critical need for the network during the reserved window should coordinate with their deans and vice chancellors to notify UNI in advance. However, you are discouraged from scheduling critical functions within this window.
