LSU Researcher Discovers Great Things

Twenty years ago, the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business and LSU Foundation teamed up to transform the learning experience for students seeking careers in asset management. In February 2005, $500,000 from the university’s endowment was designated for creating a student-managed investment fund aptly named the Tiger Fund. The fund’s goals are simple: outperform the benchmark and create an environment where students can learn about portfolio management, stock selection and equity research.

Six LSU faculty members have been selected as Rainmakers by the LSU Council on Research based on their outstanding scholarship and creative activity within their respective ranks and disciplines. The Rainmaker awards recognize sustained work with high impact, often in alignment with LSU's Scholarship First Agenda to improve lives in Louisiana and across the world.

In collaboration with LSU's academic colleges, Olinde Career Center and the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) Abroad, the Office of Global Engagement is launching a fully funded eight-week global internship program this summer in Central America.

LSU’s Office of Global Engagement, in collaboration with the University of Ghana, has developed a fully funded five-week summer study abroad program in Accra. This program is tailored specifically for first-generation students, offering a transformative opportunity to engage in global learning in one of West Africa’s culturally rich and historically significant countries.

Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Gary "Mike" Jones, a 28-year active-duty Army Military Intelligence Branch veteran with stints as Commander of Special Forces Command, Commander of Special Operations Command Europe, and Commander of U.S. Army Special Forces Airborne, is honored as the 2025 Alumnus of the Year. Lance Frank, executive vice president, and head of communications for CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, is the 2025 Young Alumnus of the Year.

An LSU-led research team is developing a new class of antibiotics capable of bypassing the defenses of drug-resistant bacteria, which otherwise make it difficult to cure chronic infections.
