Nineteen ROTC Cadets Commissioned as Part of LSU Spring Commencement Exercises
Nineteen LSU graduates were recognized during LSU's spring commissioning ceremony on Thursday, May 16, in The Student Union Theater. Maj. General Edmond M. Brown, Chief of Staff at the United States Army Futures Command in Austin, Texas. served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony.
LSU Awards 26 Seniors the Engaged Citizen Medal
The Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership (CCELL), in conjunction with LSU Campus Life, is pleased to announce that 26 seniors will graduate with the Engaged Citizen distinction for Spring 2024. Students were recognized and awarded medals in a ceremony on Tuesday, May 14 on the LSU campus.
LSU to Award More than 4,800 Degrees at Spring Commencement, One of the Largest Graduating Classes in History
More than 4,800 students are expected to graduate during LSU's 313th commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.
LSU Provost's Fund Invests $1.2 Million in Highly Competitive Research Teams
In a second round of Big Idea seed grants, the largest internal funding program in LSU history, the Provost’s Fund for Innovation in Research is investing $1.2 million in 15 interdisciplinary research teams. Aligned with LSU’s Scholarship First Agenda, the teams and their projects aim to solve pressing problems in Louisiana and everywhere.
LSU Names Clint Willson Dean of the College of the Coast & Environment
BATON ROUGE – LSU has named Clint Willson dean of the College of the Coast & Environment, effective June 1. Willson has held the appointment on an interim basis since July 1, 2023, and has been selected to serve in the role permanently after competing in a national search. Willson holds the Mike N. Dooley, P.E. Professorship in Civil & Environmental Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering Seniors Design Equipment for B-52s at Barksdale Air Force Base
As part of their senior capstone project, six LSU Mechanical Engineering seniors have been working with Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La., to design an apparatus that will enable airmen to more easily work on or change out the engines on their B-52 bombers. Considering Barksdale AFB houses 26 B-52s, and each B-52 has eight engines, the students’ design should definitely come in handy.
Partnership with LSU Streamlines LSU Alexandria Students’ Path to an Engineering Career
LSU Alexandria students can begin studying engineering at LSUA and then seamlessly transfer to LSU to complete their bachelor’s degree under an agreement between the two campuses to help keep top students in Louisiana and the LSU family.
LSU Mechanical Engineering Instructor Creates ASPIRE Course for Educators
Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…a drone. Drones are literally taking off and LSU Mechanical Engineering Senior Instructor Andrew Becnel wants students to keep up. Becnel, who is a graduate of LSU’s Mechanical Engineering program and has a master’s degree and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland, understands the importance of drone technology, especially in Louisiana.
John Nauright, PhD, Named Director of the LSU School of Kinesiology
The LSU College of Human Sciences & Education announces John Nauright, PhD, as director of the LSU School of Kinesiology and will also serve as the Karen Wax Schmitt and Family Endowed Professor. Nauright will assume his role on June 1.
LSU Research Team Working to Increase Supply of Affordable, Resilient Housing in High-Risk Areas
ith hurricane season around the corner, a team of LSU researchers is exploring the feasibility of FORTIFIED® elevated manufactured homes as a solution for lower- and middle-income residents in high-risk areas. The outcomes of the project have the potential to enhance housing supply significantly, particularly in areas prone to natural disasters, offer greater safety to residents, and reduce burden on the National Flood Insurance Program and other disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief endeavors.

LSU Names Vicki Colvin New Dean of the College of Engineering
LSU has named Baton Rouge native Vicki Colvin the dean of the College of Engineering, effective August 1, pending approval by the LSU Board of Supervisors. Colvin is currently the Vernon Krieble Professor of Chemistry and Engineering at Brown University and Director of Biomedical Engineering.

LSU Librarian Nicollette Davis Drives Change as 2024 Mover & Shaker
In her short time at LSU, Librarian Nicollette Davis has made an indelible mark on LSU Libraries and the library world writ large. This year, she was named a 2024 Mover & Shaker by Library Journal for her dedication to equal opportunity initiatives. Library Journal is a premier American trade publication for librarians that was founded in 1876. It has awarded more than 20,000 recipients since the award's inception in 2002. Davis is one of 50 in her cohort and brings a wealth of experience and a passion for fostering a more inclusive environment within the library community.
