Humanities & Social Sciences Residential College
First-year students majoring in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences can live in North Hall and take classes with the same group of peers, creating a smaller network within the larger LSU campus from day one.
In this living-learning environment, the academic support is unmatched. Many of your HSS classes will be held in the residence hall, with additional tutoring and on-campus events designed to help you succeed at LSU and beyond!

Academic Support
HSSRC students have access to a faculty rector, graduate student, and academic advisor in North Hall dedicated to helping them navigate and successfully complete their first year at LSU, have priority scheduling for some courses and receive help with choosing the right classes, and have access to in-community tutoring and exclusive HSSRC class review sessions led by faculty members.
North Hall
As part of the Residential College One Complex (RCC), North Hall surrounds a beautifully landscaped central courtyard with West Hall, South Hall, and East Hall, which houses the faculty-in-residence apartment. North Hall is on the west side of campus near the athletic facilities and The 5 dining hall.
To participate in the HSS Residential College, you must:
- Be a first-year student with a declared major in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences, including pre-law
- Enroll in at least two courses offered through HSSRC in both the fall and spring semesters
- In the fall semester, all HSSRC students will be required to take HSS 1000: Introduction to Research, a one-hour, once-a-week student success seminar.
- In the spring semester, all HSSRC students will be required to take HSS 1001: Introduction to HSS Career Pathways, a one-hour, once-a-week seminar that helps students link their chosen major to a career pathway and develop the skills and tools necessary to successfully navigate the job field once they've graduated.
- The second course required in the fall and spring will vary based on student needs.

During the admitted-student housing application process, select the Humanities & Social Sciences Residential College as your preferred housing option.
You'll receive notice of acceptance into the living-learning program by the spring, and then you can begin searching for and matching with potential roommates.
