Chapter SymbolThe Nu Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on May 22, 1978 on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. David Henly, Dennis Kimble, Jerry Power, Ronald Wade, Leroid Jones, Michael Joubert, and Dock Voorhies (also known as “Phase One”) were the seven great men who chartered this historic chapter. For over 45 years, the Nu Psi Chapter has positively impacted the Greater Baton Rouge area by hosting numerous community service projects and conducting various educational programs on and off campus. Nu Psi brothers pride themselves in possessing a spirit of excellence by maintaining high grade point averages while being well-known campus leaders. Nu Psi has won the Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter of the Year Award in 1990, 1991, and 1996 and has won various LSU Order of Omega Awards. Brothers also regularly compete in conference competitions (i.e., Oratorical Contest, Debate, and Step Show Competition) and have won the Louisiana District and Regional Stroll-Off Competition for three consecutive years and are the reigning Louisiana District Collegiate Scholars' Bowl Champions.
In addition, Nu Psi is assisted by its advisory alumni chapter Xi Nu Lambda which has been represented mostly by the legendary, Hall of Fame Alpha Brother and longest serving Chapter Advisor and Area Director and Chief Dean, Life Member Brother Alvin J. Cavalier.
