You are part of the LSU family. Just like in your own family, you likely have ideological, political, and social differences. But you take care of one another, because no matter what, you are family. That's why we support each other and make sure that we all can proudly carry our LSU experience with us for a lifetime, no matter what your race, creed, ethnicity, orientation or gender.

While our campus was primarily spared from damage, many in our Tiger family suffered ruinous damage to their homes during last week's flooding. I know that many of your lives are in upheaval, and we want to help. I have asked the Baton Rouge Area Foundation to establish an LSU Employee Assistance Fund, and they readily agreed to do so. The fund will help LSU employees who are affected by disasters and hardships such as this recent flood.

Welcome to the fall semester! We start this academic year with a sense of determination -- we know that many of our students, faculty, and staff members suffered incredible damage from the flood, and we are committed to helping our friends and family get back on their feet after such devastation. I encourage you to be as supportive as possible and provide flexibility where possible. The road to recovery is a long one, but we will make it through by working together.

Message from the President (August 19, 2016)

The past week brought historic flooding to our state, but it also highlighted the deep and lasting ties that bind our community together in times of crisis. LSU was fortunate - campus sustained minimal damage and will be up and running as planned next week. But we know that is not the case for thousands across Louisiana, many of whom we count as members of our LSU family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the devastating flood waters. Recovery will not happen overnight, but it will happen, and we will get there by working together as Louisianans.
