Chafee Educational & Training Voucher
The Chafee Educational and Training Voucher (ETV) Program is awarded to students who have been in the foster care system and meet the below criteria. The award amount is up to $9,000 annually.
Interested students must meet the following criteria:
- Be ages 14-27;
- Be in the foster care system, aged out of the foster care system, exited the foster care system through legal guardianship or adoption after attaining the age of 16, or was in the foster care system after the age of 14 and exited for reasons other than adoption, guardianship, or aging out; and
- Be enrolled in postsecondary education; and
- Annually complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Also, Eligible students should complete the Chafee Educational and Training Voucher (ETV) Program Payment Request Form and return it to Financial Aid & Scholarships to begin the application process.
You must:
- Not have attained the age of 27; and
- Be enrolled in postsecondary education; and
- Not have participated in the program for more than five years, whether or not consecutively; and
- Be making satisfactory academic progress in his/her program of study. To retain the award, recipients must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and earn 67% of the hours they attempt as well as meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy. This policy is checked following each semester.

- Submit your FAFSA and consult with your college’s financial aid office.
Note: Once a student obtains the age of 27, they are no longer eligible to receive/renew the Chafee Educational and Training Voucher

The Chafee Educational and Training Voucher (ETV) Program is awarded to students who
have been in the foster care system and meet the below criteria. The award amount
is up to $9,000 annually.
Interested students must meet the following criteria:
- Be ages 14-27;
- Be in the foster care system, aged out of the foster care system, exited the foster care system through legal guardianship or adoption after attaining the age of 16, or was in the foster care system after the age of 14 and exited for reasons other than adoption, guardianship, or aging out; and
- Be enrolled in postsecondary education; and
- Annually complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Also, Eligible students should complete the Chafee Educational and Training Voucher (ETV) Program Payment Request Form and return it to Financial Aid & Scholarships to begin the application process.
You must:
- Not have attained the age of 27; and
- Be enrolled in postsecondary education; and
- Not have participated in the program for more than five years, whether or not consecutively; and
- Be making satisfactory academic progress in his/her program of study. To retain the award, recipients must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and earn 67% of the hours they attempt as well as meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy. This policy is checked following each semester.
